The Quicky Whacky world.
It was a Sunday afternoon and I was about to doze off in my bean bag, suddenly the thought of giving a glance to whats up on the television flashed on my empty head. There it was …a T20 match between India – NZ.
Flash back mode …2 Days Ago.
A Friday evening, and an unusual coffee talk. Unusual??..Yes!! ‘Coz usually there are none around for a Friday evening chat at office.Weekend mood!!. The coffee was getting hotter due to the topic we were discussing about. T20 matches. The Rules, the thrills, frenzied batsmen and fumbling bowlers.
The talk turned to how the Indo-Pak match ended as a thorough adventure without any misadventures. Got to accept cricket getting tainted a lil with Rugby and Football kinda madness. Especially the bowl out, it was even more exciting… folks could not stop yapping about how the previous nite was made livelier…ahemm…I meant due to the exciting finish!
The entire drama was kinda over in less than 3 hours. So ain’t people wanting to thoroughly enjoy a full one day game ? or what ever happened to those ardent lovers of test cricket ? extinct?
Yesterday.
My usual gang of four gathered around the wine-table. After a couple of glasses of Vodka filled our throat and chilled our minds. I just had a few more points to add to the T20-talks. “Hey even the players don’t walk up to the dressing room”. No wasting time ok ?! “A free hit after a no-ball” n so on.
Back to Sunday afternoon.
Introspective. So is the world wanting everything quick and in a frenzy ? Is a result wanted so too fast? Within hours of time? I just heard a comment, “who has the time to watch test cricket. Come on I can’t wait for 5 days to get a win-loss effect.”
And another comment, not related to T20 though, but T28. Yep. Tying the knot by 28. I heard a guy talking to a pal. “Hey machan! I wanna book that flat. Yes. Next week my parents are talking to the gals folks. And hopefully I should make that H1B trip immediately after marriage.”
Boss? You wanna get married/get a flat/visit abroad/get a big car everything by 28 ? One moment. Did he see the gal ? Oh yet another NWC marriage ? Gal “nodding in web cam” for the guy? Yeah I understood. That’s the reason he never had the time to watch test cricket. He also added that he wanted to become a Project-lead by the same time-frame. Wow a real fab man though.
Okay I am none to convince him to watch test cricket as I realized he didn’t even have a minute as he told the last movie he watched was the RajniKanth flick, and claimed that it was longer. Again our boss never had patience to watch “the BOSS” in a 3 hour flick, though it was the “return of the super star”.
I was wondering how the world would be after a few years ?
Maybe…..
Flash Forward mode : Saturday 2020.
Dude 1: Hey did you watch the T10 match yesterday? I can’t imagine sachin losing his wicket at the pen-ultimate 6th over.
Dude 2: Yeah. I think he should retire. He is already 47. India could not even manage a target of 212 runs in 10 overs.
Maybe the quickest turnover APJ Kalaam wanted as vision 2020 !
Back to my Sunday afternoon.
OMG ! wake up !Hope babies are not born in a month. The bizi-bee world might make it possible too.
Ok, its time for me to join the rat race. Step 1: Take the property plus and find a 2 Bedroom flat and also a banker who has the best EMI plan. Step 2: Grab the matrimonial page and find the fair-slim maiden of my choice. Step 3: Get application forms to admit my future kids in the very posh school.
Argh…got to do these things though the Rebel inside me wants to question the system!!!. Wish everyone would take a deep breath and enjoy every moment of life..Leisurely … like the good old days.
Let me run now, gotto stop my 2 year old nephew from crashing his cycle…smart chap wants his driving license by 4….Adios…!

Well written post Bharath!!.. We are in an era where time is synonimous to money.( may be inversely proportional).. the lesser the time the more the turn over.. hence right from the deadlines we face in office to the T20 format we are seeing now is shrunk in order to increase the money involved!!!..
As far as T20 cricket goes it again shows a trend.. miniature versions are preferred over the longer previous versions.. from cricket to mobile phones to micro chips to thumb drive to what not..
seri i shud shrink my mokkai i guess..
enna dhan fast food ulagama irunthalum tanjore ellai sapatu taste te thanni.. same way though newer versions keep coming the tradition of the older versions can still be relished!!!

Hi Bharath, nice write-up. Yes, I think everyone wants quick results these days, its just the way of the world. No one has time to wait. In the US currently they are showing an advertisement for VISA credit cards. There is this long queue in front of a fast food store, and everyone is paying with the new VISA card. The new VISA card just needs to be touched to the sensor – there is no more swiping and signing involved. And there is this one guy who wants to pay in the old fashioned way – using Cash. And as he fumbles for change, everyone looks down on him and shake their heads disapprovingly. The punchline of the ad is something like – Fast food takes fast cash, life takes visa. So that says it all. The world has no time to wait. But I cannot see why that is necessarily a bad thing. Live fast, die young !!

** Step 2: Grab the matrimonial page and find the fair-slim maiden of my choice
ahmm ahmm … I didn’t know you were entitled to that
who has time … todays generation are so bogged down with work that even socialization needs to be fast and furious … that city life man
… can’t ask for *everything*
even organizations are so … they rewards those who put the extra mile (which comes out of countless weekends and regular night-outs) … they only care about quick results, not about steady ones
speaking of T20, check this out – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bob85WbW8cU. Thats what T20 is about

Good one Bharath.. To think of it, in todays fast paced world, people dont have ‘time’ to get sick; but what they dont realise is they dont have the ‘time’ to even take care of their own health!!!
At this rate, people will just grow up and ‘try’ to achieve everything in a few years and ‘happily’ (thats something to think about) pass away to the next world even before they want to

Bharath, That was a good article…It is a good thing that youth (at least ppl like you) these days realise the spped at which life passes us by.
For my generation (about 5-7 yrs older yep..that wld make us another gen in ur vocab) it took us to cross the 30 mark to realise that …wow..where did my 20s go? what did I do/achieve?
my colleagues here have travelled the world by the time they are 30 (no, not on offshore assignments but on holidays) but how may of us can truly boast of atleast having travelled all over India (not bcos of lack of funds, but the lack of time is what prevents indian youth doing that these days)
I am making a list of 100 things to do before I die like the aussies here (not such a weird list anyway) and I hope to take time off to do atleast some of them.
stop and smell the roses!!

It’s a world of “quickies” – any pun noticed is intended
We better keep pace before we are left behind in the rat race. Speaking of rats reminds me of this quote “Even if you come first in the rat race, you are still a rat”

nice write-up da, I agree with you for what you have tried to say.. even I have been running so fast in life that I have lost the purpose now! … well, I will sit back and relax till your next article pops up!
On the other side, we should be positive towards this attitude man, only Indians would like to run ahead of time!
I recently heard from my friend that his client had resigned his job to go around the world on a one year trip spending all his earnings.. he has planned to come back and redo his earnings for his living again!!
Although that was quite inspiring and exciting not many of us can afford to do that… we are converting hours to minutes so that the younger generation does it the other way..

Hi buddy, nice way to put ur thoughts. As is the general feeling we need to keep up with the pace in this rat-race or be left out. So lets keep running.
Seeing the sea of change in Chennai I am imagining how fast is Bombay or Delhi not to forget Banglore….

hey annan – nice write up
I would like to quote thalaivars dialogue before i start
“SAAGARA NAAL THERINJA – VAAZHARA NAATKAL NARAGAM AYDUM”
Ingayum appadi thaan – TAT neringa neringa things get wild and disastrous.
Though we travel in life with lots of TATs set(even some really unfair ones) – its jus taking us forward in life to a great extent.
The Cricketers succeded – so would we.
We’re jus heading in the right way.
if we offered lots esp time – we never understand its importance.

Hash,
Thats exactly the point am trying to drive at. Some folks dont even have the patience to sit n watch a full play. They end up giggling more for fast-food comedies.
Rvk,
We cant comment on purity aspects though. Still we gotta remain alert to changing trends.
Dwarak/Charanya,
Thanks for the comments. and yeah, “tanjore ela sapadu”, excellent analogy.

Well Ashish,
. Hope we are on track when we get old.
We do whine about our parents who dont catch up with our pace
Heidi/rags, Thanks for the comments.
Samy, leave aside eligibility criterias for now
. Yep, T20 is like a sub-way veggie delight while some still prefer Bheema-Full-meal !

Ramya,
No time to get sick ??!! haha.. well there are ppl who get sick, but forget that they are sick ..
Archie,
“even if we win, still a rat” , good rumination of “phantom parody” dialogues… really memorable
Radhika,
Many still dont realise there are a lot of places to catch up in India. Am trying to see most of them, before I reach gangulys age

Well … first ov all … some thought provoking stuff … Hats off da Bharath. I still feel that the world is going at the same pace. Nature still ages out each of us in the same way, but humans wanna achieve things faster. But whats causing people to pace their life so fast? I don’t give a damn …
Lets start a new journey …
It seems like a goalless life. What exactly is our goal in life? Is it all about mere survival?
Does everyone happily say, … “Yes, Its all about survival” … and “The survival of the fittest strongest and the brainiest”? … Does everyone have a foolish eagerness to survive, to find a cozy job that makes you sacrifice your dreams for it but allows you to make money, buy a house, find a partner, add one to the population if possible, retire, eat, sleep and sleep forever? … Does everyone feel proud that they have sacrificed all of their dreams for surviving this long? Does everyone seldom use their heart to make their decisions?
NO WAY! There are some people who believe that every single soul in this world has a mission, a mission to experience the unknown. A dream that appears reappears and reappears everyday, thrusting them to make it real. A Passion, that makes them sweat, cry, starve, crave, sacrifice anything … just anything to live it. Last but not the least … being unconditional about it and not expecting any materialistic pleasures from it.
Are you one of them? Then welcome aboard. Lets start a new journey!
- Have a goal in life.
- Follow your dreams.
- Chase your passions.
- Start your mission.
- Clear all obstacles both physical and emotional to achieve it, not with force but with love.
- Age doesn’t matter, Make your reappearing dreams real.
- Don’t you ever think that you have wasted your youth.
- Don’t ever think about the society coz it never thinks about you.
- Helping other souls to reach their goals could also be your goal, if its your reappearing dream.
- Be unconditional. Be like this earth. Stay close to nature.
- There are always two sides for a coin. Your goal may not please every soul in this world. Face it!
- If you ever feel you are doing something wrong just for the sake of achieving your goal. Please stop! Think what you are doing wrong and change your way of approach.
- When you feel that you have achieved your goal help others to come all the way too!
